Sport is edited and published by Fergus Barrowman, who founded the magazine in 1988 with Elizabeth Knox, Nigel Cox and Damien Wilkins, with assistance from Bill Manhire, Alan Preston and Andrew Mason.

Sport was published twice a year until November 2003, and is now published when it is ready. Co-editors and guest editors have included Andrew Johnston (6-9), James Brown (13, 14, 16, 18-24), Gregory O’Brien (15, 30) Sara Knox (17), Catherine Chidgey (23-26) and Lara Strongman (30).
